Learn About Warner

Old Warner School Warner and the southern Alberta community can speak proudly of its past. The people who settled this area came from all parts of Europe and the world to make a better life for their families. They endured hardships, droughts, and economic downturns. Some would say they became better people for it as they were always forced to adapt to new and changing circumstances.
In 1914, Warner became the first school in Alberta to consolidate. Consolidation meant taking all of the local one room school houses and bussing them into town to go to one big school. The community displayed vision and common sense knowing consolidation would better reflect the reality of the day that one-room schoolhouses were no longer practical. It was not long before the rest of the province followed suit. Airport
Horseback Riding This community is founded in agriculture. When settlers first came to this area, the economy was primarily grain and cattle. This holds true today with many ranchers and farmers still in the area working the land just as their great grandparents had done when they arrived in this area.
In the late 1950’s, there was an abundance of grain in the area. A government grant was obtained to build a grain storage facility. Forward thinkers came up with a plan. It just so happened that this ‘grain storage facility’ became a hockey rink once the grain was moved out of town by rail car. This ‘grain bin’ is still in use today as a hockey rink. Town

Once again, Warner is doing something that most would say is crazy. A hockey program has been successfully started at Warner School to maintain and expand upon the viability of our local school. This opportunity is a very exciting for young female athletes to finally get the recognition and attention that they deserve.

Today, the primary industry is still agriculture. Students that come to school in Warner will be treated to many of the activities that local ranchers and farmers still take part in today.
