Alberta Curriculum
While it cannot be verified or quantified, it is generally accepted that academic standards in Alberta are much higher than elsewhere in the Canada, and almost the entire rest of the world. For example, students coming from the United States typically achieve averages 5%-15% lower than their previous average achieved in the USA. Factors that contribute to this include the use of Alberta diploma exams, difficult curriculum, and increased academic expectations for university bound students. Alberta has one of the lowest graduating averages in the country, sitting at roughly 68% compared to other provinces which have graduating averages in the mid 70’s. The end result is that students must work very diligently to handle the challenging Alberta curriculum.
